Chaukhutia Uttarakhand 2026: Beautiful Riverside Town, Ramganga Views
Whenever people talk about Uttarakhand, famous places like Nainital, Mussoorie, Rishikesh, or Kedarnath usually come to mind first. But the real beauty of the mountains is often hidden in small towns and peaceful villages that are still untouched by heavy tourism. One such beautiful place is Chaukhutia Uttarakhand, a calm and scenic town located beside the Ramganga River in Almora district.
During my journey through the Kumaon region, I got the chance to visit Chaukhutia, and honestly, it felt different from many crowded tourist places. The peaceful environment, suspension bridges, flowing Ramganga River, and sunset views made this journey memorable for me. Through this blog by Garhwal Stories, I want to share my personal experience and some useful information about Chaukhutia that may help travelers planning to explore this hidden gem of Uttarakhand.
Where is Chaukhutia Uttarakhand Located?
Chaukhutia is a small town in the Almora district of Uttarakhand. It lies near the banks of the beautiful Ramganga River and connects important regions of Kumaon and Garhwal. The town is surrounded by green hills, forests, rivers, and traditional Himalayan villages.
Many travelers pass through Chaukhutia while exploring nearby regions like Ranikhet, Bhikiyasain, Dwarahat, and Gairsain. However, very few people actually stop to experience the calm beauty of this place.
Ramganga River – The Soul of Chaukhutia Uttarakhand
One of the biggest attractions of Chaukhutia is the Ramganga River. The river flows peacefully beside the town and adds natural beauty to the entire area.
Local people say that Ramganga originates from Doodhatoli Danda. In Uttarakhand, the word “Danda” means a high mountain ridge or forest-covered mountain top. These mountain regions are filled with dense forests and natural springs.
The Ramganga River is not just important geographically but also emotionally connected with the local culture and villages. Many people living around Chaukhutia depend on this river for agriculture and daily life.
In the evening, the reflection of sunset on the flowing water creates an amazing view. Sitting quietly near the river and listening to the sound of water feels extremely relaxing.
Suspension Bridges of Chaukhutia
Another thing that caught my attention in Chaukhutia was the number of Jhula Pul or suspension bridges built across the Ramganga River.
These bridges are not just transportation routes for villagers but also a beautiful part of the landscape. Walking on these hanging bridges while watching the river below gives a unique mountain experience.
I also crossed one of the suspension bridges during my visit. The cool air, river flowing underneath, and hills all around made the moment unforgettable. From the bridge, I clicked several photos and recorded videos because the scenery looked truly cinematic during sunset.
If you love travel photography or making mountain vlogs, Chaukhutia offers many natural viewpoints.

Gateway Towards Garhwal Region
One interesting thing about Chaukhutia is that from this region onward, the Garhwal side of Uttarakhand slowly begins. As you move further towards Gairsain and Chamoli district, the landscape and cultural feel gradually start changing.
For travelers exploring both Kumaon and Garhwal regions, Chaukhutia becomes an important connecting point. This mix of cultures and mountain traditions makes the place even more special.
My Journey to Chaukhutia Uttarakhand
My journey started from Naula Gaon, a small village near Bhikiyasain in Almora district. Naula village is around 5 kilometers from Bhikiyasain, and from there Chaukhutia is nearly 30 kilometers away.
The road journey itself was beautiful. As I moved ahead through the winding mountain roads, I could see dense forests, small villages, terraced fields, and valleys covered with greenery. Mountain roads in Uttarakhand always have a different feeling because every turn opens a new view.
By the time I reached Chaukhutia, it was evening. The soft golden light of sunset was falling on the Ramganga River, and the entire town looked peaceful and magical. The cool mountain breeze, the sound of flowing water, and the silence of the hills created an atmosphere that is difficult to explain in words.
I stopped near the riverside and spent some time capturing photos and videos for Garhwal Stories. The sunset view near the river was honestly one of the best moments of my journey.
